Having a dog provides the opportunity to build a long relationship that's truly special. Here are six different bucket list experiences that you should definitely try to have with your pet.

1. Go Paddle Boarding

A stand-up paddle board is the perfect size to fit both you and your dog. There are plenty of places where you can rent a paddle board and learn how to use it. One thing to keep in mind is the two of you may have so much fun together that you end up wanting to have this experience more than once!

2. Hike a National Park

Hiking is a great way to get out and enjoy nature with your dog. You may be used to walking in local or state parks, but have you considered national parks? Some of our country’s most beautiful areas are in national parks. Just be aware that most national parks require dogs to be leashed while on a hiking trail.

3. Go Camping

You can enjoy a double bucket list experience by camping out after you go hiking. Camping is an amazing way to enjoy everything that nature has to offer. All you need to do is put a little bit of upfront work into planning out all of the logistics.

4. Swim in the Ocean

Paddle boarding isn't the only way you can fully enjoy a big body of water with your dog. Going for a swim in the ocean together is another activity that should definitely be on your shared bucket list (if your dog enjoys water). Just be sure that you follow safety best practices like not getting too far out. And once you're done swimming, the two of you can enjoy walking along the shore in the sand.

5. Visit a Nursing Home

Numerous studies have found that giving back is one of the best ways for people to increase their personal happiness. One option is  visiting a nursing home with your pet. It should only take calling a couple of nursing homes in advance to find one that will be happy to have you and your dog visit. If it ends up being an experience you want to have again you can look into getting your pet certified as a therapy dog.

6. Get Professionally Photographed

Arranging a professional photo session for you and your dog is the perfect way to get great pictures that you will be able to treasure forever, and you can make the setting as simple or elaborate as you want.
